biography

Salma El-Yassir is a management professional with over 30 years of experience in both the private and development sectors. After many years in health care management, she pivoted into the not-for-profit field. She is currently the CEO of ETAR, a consulting practice offering organizational development, training and capacity building services. Her previous position was Director General of the Institute for Palestine Studies, an institute focused on the Middle East conflict. Prior to that, she was the Country Director of the Welfare Association in Lebanon, an NGO working with refugees in the country.

Salma recently graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School with a Master’s in Public Administration, where she focused on Management, Leadership and Decision Sciences. She also holds a Master’s in Public Health from the American University in Beirut as well as an undergraduate degree in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Currently, Salma is completing a certification program in the Overcoming Immunity To Change (ITC) Framework, developed by the two Harvard adult development professors, Kegan and Lahey, and will be a certified coach in the methodology. Her purpose is helping leaders to foster “Deliberately Developmental Organizations” and well as incorporating “Adaptive Leadership” skills into their work, with a particular emphasis on gender issues. Salma is in the process of finalizing “Womaneze”, a program for women over 50 who are in a major transitional phase of their lives, to help them in refocusing their values and purpose.

Salma is equally fluent in both English and Arabic and is culturally adaptive having lived, studied and worked in the Middle East and internationally. She is the mother of two adult sons.
