Reem Alsalem is an independent consultant working in the areas of humanitarian response, forced displacement, and early recovery. She has extensive experience in the areas of refugee protection, assisting and protecting victims of trafficking in human beings, needs assessments, and protection trainings, and the design and implementation of protection policy and advocacy strategies. Before becoming an independent consultant in mid-2016, she worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) serving with it on all continents in conflict and post-conflict areas.

Since becoming independent, Reem has lent her expertise to UN organisations and large international non-governmental organisations and their programs in Geneva, New York, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas.

Reem has an MA in International Human Rights Law (2003) from the University of Oxford and an MA in International Relations (1999) from the American University of Cairo.

Reem Alsalem has extensive experience in working in: Afghanistan, Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Greece, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, Sudan, and Syria. Major areas of expertise include: Analysis and research, Capacity assessments and development, Civil society engagement and strengthening, Conflict, situation and political economy analysis, Curriculum development and training, Disaster response and resilience-building operations, Engaging marginalized groups, Humanitarian responses, mechanisms and programmes, Monotoring, evalution and impact assessment, Planning, strategy, programming and project development, Policy and concept development, and Strategic reviews.
